But we think you can get press anyways. That's why we’ve created the Personal Branding PR Intensive, a “Done With You” PR program that couples our signature personal branding PR strategy with ongoing support.

You may have tried to DIY PR on your own before – maybe you’ve even bought into a course or program but have never quite been able to make it work. Here’s why:

  • Strategy: A solid PR plan requires strategy and an understanding of media, and that can’t be faked or learned quickly. 

  • Accountability: Most DIY courses or programs send you on your way to pitch when you’re done. But life and business can often get in the way, pushing PR down on the priority list.

These are the precise reasons that this program is not DIY – it’s DWY: “Done With You.” SHC’s Personal Brand PR Intensive blends our signature PR strategy work with a full quarter of accountability and support. This is a one-on-one program with our founder and senior strategist Kristen Elworthy. It is consulting, not coaching: we are delivering a custom strategy to you, just like we do for our retainer clients. You’ll get everything you need to pitch: written pitches, a media list, talking points and more – customized to your brand and business.

We won’t leave you hanging. After we deliver your strategy, we guide you for a full three months with unlimited support to answer your very real questions about media outreach as you do it. This ensures that you move forward with the strategy and gives you the time to generate momentum. The support is the secret sauce.

Kristen Elworthy has more than a decade of experience working with mission-driven companies, nonprofits and personal brands. As the founder of SHC, she leads strategy on every client and considers herself a collaborative member of the team. With a background in journalism, Kristen is driven by a great story and has helped dozens of clients define their brand story and secure thousands of top tier media placements.

You could have every PR tool in the world, but having the confidence to reach out to media, knowing when to follow up, and staying consistent will make or break your results. That’s why our intensive includes three months of one-on-one support to ensure that you get on track for PR!

  • This program is designed for people building personal brands and looking to engage an audience and create validation for their brand through media appearances (i.e., contributed editorial content, podcasts, commentary in the media, etc.). Often our clients are about to publish a book, or are looking to raise awareness of their expertise in their field as they build a consulting or coaching practice. Some clients are entrepreneurs who are building brands beyond their companies with an eye towards “what’s next.”

    In short: this is a program for experts who may have more time than money to invest in PR, but who need the strategy and guidance to get started. You don’t need knowledge or understanding of PR before the Intensive – that’s what we are here for! We’re delivering precisely what our team uses to inform our strategy for clients, but you’re doing the lifting from there.

  • We focus on earned media, meaning press mentions or contributions that are earned through your expertise, and not paid editorial or advertorial. The media placements you’ll achieve through this will not cost you money – but they will require time and effort from you and your team.

    You can expect to spend at least an hour – ideally a couple of hours – on PR each week. You’ll need to pitch to get new media placements, so it’s important that you or someone on your team that is capable of pitching have the time set aside to do so. (Don’t worry, we’ll be checking in on you to make sure you stay on track!)

    If you don’t have the time or inclination to pitch yourself, you can work with us on retainer instead – in that case, we do all the pitching for you!

  • You can expect to have your PR strategy within 2-3 weeks of filling out your questionnaire. Your support period begins once your strategy is delivered and extends for three months.

    As for your PR results: that depends! It’s totally reasonable to expect you’ll start seeing media hits publish by the end of the Intensive, depending on the time that you put into pitching and who your targets are. But PR is a long game, and you’ll want to stick with it to see continued results.
